Pre-Award

Grantsmanship is a systematic and strategic process, the goal of which is to obtain external funding for the work of an individual, group or formal unit of the College. The stages of this process include: developing the proposal concept, locating potential funding sources, crafting the proposal, and obtaining College approval of the proposal.

Our goal is to work in partnership with faculty and staff, supporting their efforts to create the best possible proposal. The OAGSR Pre-Award Specialist can assist at all stages of the grantsmanship process, and can also provide user support for faculty and staff in utilizing InfoEd SPINPlus for assistance in finding funding sources, and ERSPA (Electronic Research and Sponsored Programs Assistant), our electronic proposal development and management program.

We strongly urge our faculty and staff to contact the Pre-Award Specialist early in the process so that our full range of services will be available. In order to ensure that we submit a proposal that is competitive and is compliant with all applicable regulations, sufficient time is needed for review. Normally, we require at least five (5) business days before the deadline to complete review of the final version of the proposal. Those who submit the proposal to OAGSR within five days of the deadline will enjoy the added benefit of having it copied and delivered or mailed by OAGSR.

The pre-award phase of the grants process continues until we receive notification from the sponsor that the proposal has or has not been funded. If the project is funded, the College will receive an award document from the sponsor. When the award document reaches OAGSR, it is reviewed to ensure that it meets the institutional requirements of the College. It is then forwarded to the Vice Provost for Research, who officially accepts the award by signing on behalf of the institution. At this point, the project moves from Pre-Award to Post-Award.
